Even as a culinary novice, I know what I like. Food is for sharing. So I hope you enjoy some of what I have found to be the best.

Jimmy Q's Best Eats

Is it possible to cook the perfect steak at home? The answer is...

Is it possible to cook the perfect steak at home? The answer is YES, if you start with the perfect meat. My friend Drew chose to treat me to a quality piece of meat. He ordered an assortment of Porterhouse, Filet and RibEye for me from Nolan Ryan’s. It arrived frozen as hard as a rock with plenty of nuggets of frozen CO2 to spare.

I allowed one ribeye to thaw at room temperature for 4 hours and then another 4 hours in the frig. As I prepared my baked potato, I let the steak come to room temperature with a sprinkling of cracked black, kosher salt and Lowery’s seasoned salt.

The gas grilled was fired up as hot as it would go. I seared it on both sides and then turned off the burners and let it bake on the grill until medium.

Thanks Drew for the best steak I ever ate. I have tried numerous times to match the quality of a fine restaurant steak grilled at home. Now I know the answer is in the quality of the meat. So thanks for hooking me up to the “Ryan Express”. He has made the rest of the steak world a bunch of “no hitters”.

Torna A. Sorrento Ristorento

Enter a small brick building standing alone now between two parking lots in Newark, NJ. The 5x5 foyer is lined top to bottom with sea shells and photos of the coast of old Italy. A greeting from a gentleman in tux accompanies seating. Rico, also in tux, was fluent in the specials and I chose the veal Marcella. The dish was excellent but the experience was marvelous. There was not a waiter or bar tender that had not been born in the world of Mussolini. The wall art and frames are circa 1960’s. A sense of time travel accompanies the dish of olives and breads that are presented when seated. The guests this evening are of true Italian descent, giving me a feeling of family and home even with no Italian blood of my own.

Veal Marcella $16.00
